Earn a High School Diploma

Earn your diploma for FREE with our high school diploma program!

At West Contra Costa Adult Education we offer in-person High School Diploma classes in the morning (9am-12pm) and evening (6pm-9pm), Monday through Thursday.  Our program is self-paced so that you can focus on the specific courses you need to complete to receive your High School Diploma.  We utilize online platforms: Edmentum and Subject where students complete their coursework.

Each of our High School Diploma classes has a Credentialed Teacher in the classroom to support students when they get stuck or have questions.  Our classrooms have computers and chromebooks for student use in a quiet study area.

A typical high school student needs to complete 220 credits while attending high school. West Contra Costa Adult Education is a credit recovery program where students only need to complete 130 credits to receive their high school diploma.

There are also opportunities to get specific credits waived if students are employed!

Steps to get started:

1. ATTEND ORIENTATION

At orientation, you will learn more about our program and take a reading and math skills assessment.  These assessments allow us to provide our Adult Secondary Education Programs for free. Orientation  is mandatory for new students and returning students who have not attended in the past academic year. Register for orientation at our Alvarado Campus main office or online here. Bring official transcript from your old school to orientation. If you are a returning West Contra Costa Unified School District student we have access to your transcript as we are a WCCUSD school.

2. SET LEARNING PLAN

A counselor will review your past high school credits, life goals, and available time and design a learning plan tailored to your needs. Computer-based learning, independent study, and direct classroom instruction are options for some classes.

3. EARN CREDITS AT YOUR OWN PACE

Every learner is different. We believe that earning credit should be individualized to acknowledge what you already know and spend extra time where you need it.

4. PARTICIPATE IN OUR GRADUATION CEREMONY!

Every year West Contra Costa Adult Education hosts its own Graduation Ceremony that students are able to participate in so their family and friends can celebrate their great achievement!
