Course Description
This class will delve into all things AntiCapitalism, from the foundations of Marxism, Political Economy (and what those words mean), to Media and Imperialism. This includes the Global Rise of Fascism, as well as what to do about it
The course is generally designed for Liberals who are Left-Curious, "baby Leftists," or Leftists with on-the-ground experience who would like more theory. If this is you, or if perhaps you are familiar with Structural Racism and the Patriarchy but need more Economic understanding: this class is for you. (And also your friends - AntiCapitalism is Social, after all.)
This class will NOT be dense or dry or jargon-y. It will not be smug or pedantic or detached. We will discuss things in simple terms, and grounded in their effects/descriptions on people. It will be emotional, in that you and I have feelings about the material. No work outside of class is required. All suggested resources will be podcasts, YouTube videos, comic books, or readings without headaches. Recordings will be shared only with those in the class.

Your Instructor
Delahunt, Pierce

Pierce (he/they) holds a Master of Education (M.Ed.) from the Institute for Humane Education, focusing their research on activist-education programs nationwide. Growing up in the occupied Lenape territories of New York and New Jersey, Pierce now lives in the occupied Muwekma Ohlone territory of Berkeley, California, and pays the respective Land Tax.
Since 2010, Pierce has worked with organizations like CISV, Youth Empowered Action, SMASH Academy, and the Coalition for Healthy School Food. They teach the interconnectedness of interpersonal and institutional aspects in fields such as Social Emotional Learning and Political Economy, including activism, social justice, class analysis, and Socialist economics.
Pierce believes that individualist social-emotional learning is insufficient if it does not address systemic injustice. Our ability to lead fulfilling lives should not come at the expense of others.
