Sewing Machine Confidence Builder

Price

$82

Duration

4 Weeks

Course Description

This course will demystify your mechanical sewing machine. Expand your range of use of your machine. Gain clarity about dials, settings, and multitudinous presser feet (zipper, cording, zig-zag, darning, buttonhole, gathering, blind-hem, even-feed). Review threading and making bobbins, choosing and changing needles; choosing threads. Tension adjustments to get a good stitch. Examine decorative stitches. Use zig-zag and overcast stitches to finish seams. Students will have an opportunity to practice sewing with different presser feet of their choice. We will adjust machines to work with several types of fabrics and make tension adjustments to get a good stitch. Learn the inner workings, and basic cleaning and maintenance of your mechanical sewing machine. Troubleshoot problems. We will examine and practice with classroom machines (Janome Sewist 521) and then bring your own (non-computerized) machine in working order, though you need not have a machine to enjoy this class. This is not a repair class. Your instructor, Carol, loves sewing machines and has learned by trial and error, and some help from YouTube, to dive inside the beast – fear not – the machine is your servant and you can master it.

(Class is for zig-zag or straight-stitch mechanical machines -- NOT for Sergers.)
